“Natural” gas is costing us
Americans
are paying higher energy bills after “natural” gas prices hit a 14-year high last
year.
New tax breaks can
help us #MakeTheSwitch to cleaner, more affordable all-electric appliances!
Electrification tax credits and rebates are available for:
Stove
Up to $840 for an all-electric induction stove, which is safer and more responsive than a gas stove!
Heat Pump
Up to $8,000 for a heat pump, which doubles as a furnace AND air conditioner. Heat pumps are 3-5 times more energy efficient than furnaces that burn fossil fuels.
Car
Up to $7,500 for a new electric vehicle, or $4,000 for a used one.
Solar Panel
Up to 30% of the cost of installing rooftop solar, which lowers monthly energy bills!
Clothes Dryer
Up to $840 for a heat pump clothes dryer, which are more efficient than traditional models and don't require venting outside.
Fuse Box
Up to $4,000 for a new electrical panel, which can be necessary for upgrading to more efficient electric appliances.
Battery
Up to 30% of the costs of installing a home battery system, which lets you store power from solar panels and provides resilience during power outages.
Geothermal Pump
Up to 30% of the costs of a ground-source heat pump, which uses the stable temperatures underground to heat and cool your home.
Weatherization
Up to $1,600 for adding insulation and new windows, which help keep your home comfortable and cut down on energy bills.
Americans with gas heating and stoves are paying more:
“Natural
gas prices have nearly tripled in the US”
-Business Insider,
5/17/22
Utilities are shutting off energy to customers who can’t pay high gas costs:
“Households
had their power cut more 1.5 million times in the first 10 months of 2022… a 29%
increase” from 2021”
-Powerless in the US Report,
1/30/23
Meanwhile oil and gas companies are making record profits:
“Exxon
Mobil reached record profits amid high gas prices”
-PBS News Hour,
2/2/23
And your bills could get even worse:
“This
year’s energy crisis is going to look mild once next year’s kicks in… where this
winter is a problem, next year may be a catastrophe”
-Time, 10/31/22
Gas also worsens the climate crisis and
pollutes the air inside your home:
“Gas
stove pollution causes 12.7% of childhood asthma, study finds”
-Washington Post,
1/6/23
But there are new tax breaks through the Inflation Reduction Act to help you upgrade to cleaner, safer electric appliances:
“This
new law is like a free ‘$8,000 bank account’ for remodeling your home — here’s
how to take advantage of it”
-MSN, 2/6/23
